Jewelry Care & Materials Guide

Our Materials

18k Gold-Plated

Our gold-plated pieces feature a base metal (typically brass or copper alloy) coated with a layer of 18-karat gold. This gives you the warm, luxurious look of gold at an accessible price. Because the gold is a surface layer, how you care for your piece directly affects how long it stays vibrant.

Stainless Steel

Our stainless steel pieces are highly durable, resistant to tarnish, and hold up well to everyday wear. Stainless steel is an excellent choice if you're looking for long-lasting shine with minimal upkeep.

When to Remove Your Jewelry

To keep your pieces looking their best, we recommend removing them before:

  • Water exposure — swimming, showering, washing dishes, or any prolonged contact with water can affect the gold plating over time.
  • Applying perfume or body spray — spritz first, let it dry, then put on your jewelry. Alcohol and chemicals in fragrances can dull the finish.
  • Using soap, hand creams, or lotions — products can leave residue that builds up on the surface and accelerates wear.
  • Exercise or activities that cause heavy sweating — sweat contains salts and acids that can affect the plating on gold pieces.

Stainless steel is more resistant to these elements, but removing it in the same situations is still a good habit to extend its shine.

Cleaning Your Jewelry

  • Gently wipe your pieces after each wear using a soft, dry cloth (a microfiber cloth works great).
  • For a deeper clean, use a slightly damp cloth — no soaps, chemicals, or abrasive materials.
  • Pat dry immediately and completely before storing.
  • Avoid ultrasonic cleaners or jewelry dips, especially on gold-plated pieces.

Storage Tips

  • Store each piece separately to prevent scratching — a small pouch or the box it came in works perfectly.
  • Keep jewelry in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and humidity.
  • Avoid storing pieces in the bathroom, where steam and moisture are common.
  • For necklaces and chains, clasp them closed before storing to prevent tangling.

A Note on Gold-Plated Jewelry

Gold plating is a beautiful finish that naturally experiences some wear over time with regular use — this is normal and expected. How quickly this occurs depends on your skin chemistry, how often the piece is worn, and how well it is cared for. Following the tips above will help you enjoy your pieces for as long as possible.
